The Henry: Setting New Standards in Hospitality and Service Management | Cebu
I took the earliest flight going to Cebu. And upon my arrival at the airport, there’s already a car waiting for me courtesy of the hotel. It was such a breeze travelling in an early hour because there was no traffic. I arrived at the hotel in less than 30 minutes.
When the car halted, the hotel staff quickly opened the door, took my luggage and assisted me to the lobby. As the “Red Man” vowed when I entered, a pleasant greeting and a smile from the receptionist welcomed me. Checking-in was very quick after verification. They also offered me if I want to have my breakfast first before heading to my room. Since I was still tired and sleepy, I decided to take a rest first.
Prior to this trip, I already researched about the hotel. And I must say that the design is really attractive in photos. But photos can be deceiving at times right? Just like what I have seen in some hotels and resorts I stayed in before. But The Henry is an exemption to it.
Door Opens, Welcome to “The Henry”
The lobby indeed has already a “wow factor”, which I believe makes everyone who enters think if it’s really a hotel or an exhibition space. The exposed beam and unpainted walls and ceilings did not create an “unfinished” feel but it even helps to give a quaint yet hip atmosphere and the combination of old and new art pieces and furniture are complimenting each other which resulted to a more sophisticated feel.
My BIG Personal Space
When the hotel staff opened my door and turned on the lights, it did not disappoint my sight. I was stunned. The attractive wall painting of a girl whose eyes were covered by a red hat she’s wearing added a mysterious yet sexy feel, perfect for a bachelor like me.
Some may find the colors of black and red a little bit gloomy, but the designer made sure that their guests would not to feel such vibe by combining it with white and gray. What I also like about my room is its big window that allows the natural light to come in. It also gives me a perfect view of what’s happening outside.
I was booked in the Big Room, that’s how they call it. It is around 36sqm with one king-sized bed and a 32” LCD TV. Aside from the wall painting, the choice of furniture and lighting fixtures are impressive. I think it’s the designer’s intention not to paint all the walls to highlight the painting on my head board. The canopy curtain above my bed adds more drama too. The table and sofa beside it serves a perfect space for me to work. There is also a mini ref where I stored some of my snacks and soda I bought in the nearby convenient store. The red cabinet is big enough to keep my luggage, clothes and shoes.
The great and beautiful room can be ruined when the bathroom is annoying. But mine is clean white and spacious. There are enough toiletries and towels which they replaced almost every day or when needed. The shower feature is also great, you can take a bath like your under the rain or you may opt to just hold it.
The Henry is not as big as other hotels. In fact they only have six floors. But want I really appreciate is that they did not compromise the room space just to create more rooms. It gives a lot of space for the guests to move and breathe freely. Even their hallways are spacious and are accented with either furniture or an artwork.
Aside from Big Rooms, The Henry also offers other rooms categorize as Large, XLarge and XX Large.
The hotel staffs are very genuine and friendly. You’ll feel that they are taking their profession seriously. Receptionists in their nerdy eyeglasses never fail to greet me every time I pass by the lobby, day and night. I can’t recall even a single moment where they forgot to do it. The restaurant staffs are also accommodating and responding quickly with my request. I can also personally say that their room attendants are trustworthy as I always left my gadgets and some of my spare money in my table and it was never lost or stolen. Every morning, I love how they politely offer to clean my room and ask if I need anything. When I had a problem with my internet connection, in less than a minute or two after my call, one of their staffs knocked at my door and helped me, such a fast response unlike my previous experience in some hotel where a simple request takes a longer time to be given attention.
More from The Henry (Service and Other Amenities)
My booking comes with a complimentary breakfast, being served from 6AM to 10AM at Rica’s Restaurant. They’ve got a variety of breakfast sets to choose from: American, European, Filipino and Fitness. Yes, you read it right, a breakfast made to cater health-conscious guests. Have I also mentioned that this restaurant is a must-see part of the hotel because of its very engaging design?
Every morning after having my breakfast, I used to hang-out at the benches near the poolside to read my book/newspaper or write in my journal. I maybe far from the beach, but their swimming pool is enough to compensate my need.
If you’re a party chick or if it happens you are travelling with your fashionista girlfriend, you may opt to visit their Virus Boutique at the lobby for some great and unique finds, be it dress, shoes, bags and even accessories.
If you’re planning to cool down where you can just lounge and have a drink or two accompanied with great playlist and or conversation with your friend and about to make friends, their cozy bar called The Scrapyard is just at the second floor. You don’t need to go far to unwind and relax before going to sleep.
Aside from this easy access to provide your personal and social needs, The Henry also offers daily newspaper, free internet connection, books to read, and transportation services among others.
One of the considerations that every travelers consider when choosing a hotel is its easy access to everything that they would need like restaurants, places to hangout like bars and malls, and just even a convenient store. What’s best about The Henry’s location is that it is almost near everything. If you want a perfect relaxation, there’s The Spa at Cebu beside it. A convenience store is just a few walks across the street. The Gaisano Country Mall is just one ride away from the hotel too, be it cab or jeepney that just passing by the main road. It is also near the city’s prime business district, the CEBU IT Park. This is where I usually meet my Cebu-based friends for dinner as there are varieties of restaurants and coffee shop within that area.
So if you are planning to spend a vacation in Cebu make this hotel your priority of choice. Indeed, it sets a new standard for service and hospitality management in our country.
